Mabee Foundation Announces $575,000 Challenge Grant

The gift will help fund our new Headquarters Expansion Project.

Sand Springs, OK — The Spring, a Tulsa-based nonprofit organization serving those impacted by domestic violence and human trafficking, was recently honored to receive a challenge grant from the Mabee Foundation, based in Texas, to fund its new headquarters in Sand Springs. The project will serve as a permanent home base for the organization, housing administrative staff, a public donation center, and a dedicated space for its non-residential services program, which offers resources to survivors who don’t currently need a place to stay.

“Everything we do is about serving more people who need help,” Leslie Clingenpeel, The Spring’s CEO, said. “That sounds simple, but that really is what it’s all about for us. This project is going to help us do that, and we’re incredibly grateful that Mabee Foundation is entrusting us with this challenge grant.”

The grant is worth $575,000 and is contingent on receiving an additional $575,000 by July 14, 2027 — incentivizing new donors to give and double their impact. As of today, $255,000 has been given towards the challenge. The Mabee Foundation emphasized how much The Spring’s project is in keeping with their decades-long commitment to funding new construction and building renovations for nonprofits in Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arkansas, Missouri and Kansas.

“We believe in The Spring’s mission to serve victims of domestic and sexual violence and human trafficking,” Michael Goeke, the Mabee Foundation’s Executive Director, said. “We also trust and respect the leadership and organizational strength of The Spring, and we believe that this project is important in many areas — expanding capacity at the primary shelter, fostering the growth of their non-residential services program, and creating offices away from the shelter. We hope that this challenge grant will inspire others in the Tulsa area and beyond to join this important work.”
