The First Step Toward a New Program

We’re excited to announce the purchase of property to serve minor victims of human trafficking.

Sand Springs, OK — The Spring, a Tulsa-based nonprofit organization providing services to those impacted by domestic violence and human trafficking, is proud to announce the purchase of a new residential property in the Tulsa metro area dedicated to the future care of youth survivors of human trafficking. Though a functioning program remains at least a year in the future, this purchase is an exciting first step in The Spring’s intention to provide shelter and support to a population that is essentially unserved in Oklahoma.

“Right now, the story for minors who’ve been victims of trafficking is a bleak one,” Leslie Clingenpeel, The Spring’s CEO, said. “They are funneled into a system that isn’t prepared to work with them or understand the trauma they’ve undergone. We’ve long had the heart to serve these young people, but this is the first concrete step we’ve taken. It’s exciting. We hope we can create a model for other service providers to follow throughout the next decade.”

Over the coming year, The Spring will work to create a functional program to serve minor victims of trafficking, with an emphasis on providing long-term stability and pathways to continued care even after a minor’s time in the program. The organization will also work with the appropriate state agencies to secure certification prior to opening.  Details will continue to be shared as they become available.
